He has spoken to at least some of the parents of slain soldiers, not all of them but probably more than anyone else. And I assume, on some level, he knows he bears a special responsibility, as the person who caused the war to happen. That said, the Bushes have never dealt with the loss of a child, although I believe the First Lady was involved in a vehicular death that she had caused (as a teenager).
