The last full measure of devotion

When I read this story, I couldn't help but remember that the First Lady once said, when told that the American people were suffering from the Iraq War, that "no one suffers more than the president and I do."

You know, I will say this for the President, he is in a unique position. He has spoken to at least some of the parents of slain soldiers, not all of them but probably more than anyone else. And I assume, on some level, he knows he bears a special responsibility, as the person who caused the war to happen. That said, the Bushes have never dealt with the loss of a child, although I believe the First Lady was involved in a vehicular death that she had caused (as a teenager). All I can say is I hope he doesn’t smirk at the parents of dead soldiers.
